Patrick M. Szafran, PsyD is a licensed Clinical Psychologist who earned his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Roosevelt University in Chicago. He has worked in a variety of settings including residential and therapeutic schools, hospitals, and community mental health. He currently works with young children through adults and families at the Counseling Connections' practice and therapeutic day schools. He specializes in those who are experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD, gender/sexuality issues, and autism. He offers individual, family and group therapy, and conducts neuropsychological assessment and diagnostic testing for Counseling Connections' Autism Spectrum Clinic.
At the foundation of Dr. Szafran's approach is a strong connection with clients that is based on mutual safety, trust, and genuine care. Within this relationship, he brings his authentic self, including his warmth and dedication that often puts folks at ease and enables them to more compassionately understand their true selves, strengths and imperfections in all. Dr. Szafran's work with children and adolescents involves a collaborative relationship with parents, where parents learn to trust the instincts that are already within them and try new approaches to be the parents they always wanted to be. With teenagers and adults, he offers an open-minded relationship that can help highlight and transform unhelpful patterns and lead to greater self-acceptance and success in relationships. Recognizing that not everyone responds to traditional talk therapies, Dr. Szafran also utilizes creative mediums, including art, music, movement/sport, and play, to help clients express their inner experiences.
