Dr. Kathryn Hefferon
Kati Hefferon, PsyD is a licensed Clinical Psychologist who earned her master's and doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology - Chicago in 2009. She has worked in group practice and community mental health settings, and most currently spent 5 years as a Clinical Administrator and Supervisor for South Campus Therapeutic Day School; an alternative day school for children and adolescents with emotional, behavioral, and developmental struggles. Dr. Hefferon continues her work with school aged children, adolescents, and families here at Counseling Connections. She specializes in those struggling with mood disorders, acting out behaviors, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and features of personality disorders. More specifically, she is known for helping children and adolescents who may be at higher risk of using inappropriate coping strategies to deal with stressors. Dr. Hefferon takes a systemic approach to helping families as a unit promote health in the patient. She also believes strongly that a strength-based approach is essential to fostering a sense of self, a sense of empowerment, and a sense of identity within a system. This is especially true for adolescents who seem to feel lost and overwhelmed by their world. In addition to individual and family therapy, Dr. Hefferon is involved in Counseling Connections' Autism Spectrum Clinic, conducting intakes and assessments for families.
