Roadmaps Social Skills Group

Many children face roadblocks or obstacles in the development of age appropriate social skills such as making friends, recognizing social cues, using appropriate language as well as managing and expressing emotions.  “Roadmaps” provides an opportunity for your child to practice appropriate social skills, have positive interactions with his or her peers, and develop their self-confidence.  A separate boys and girls group, ages 9-11, meets on every other Thursday at 6pm in Libertyville, IL.  For more information, please call 847-680-2715, x. 221

Domestic Violence Group

The Domestic Violence Offender Program is available to men who have either been Court Ordered due to a criminal offense or someone who wants to learn appropriate skills in regard to their domestic relationships.  An evaluation is conducted to assess the treatment most appropriate.  The group meets once a week for 90 minutes.  This is a 24 -week program that is open-ended, meaning someone may begin attending at anytime.  Some of the topics covered are power and control, cognitive restructuring, assertive vs. aggressive interaction, conflict resolution and negotiation, effects on children witnessing domestic violence, parenting skills.  The group meets on Tuesdays from 6:00p.m. – 7:30 p.m.  Please contact Arlene Messner-Peters at 847-680-2715, x229 if you are interested in joining.

Alternatives to Teenage Aggression/Anger Management

Counseling connections’ Alternative to Teenage Aggression/Anger Management group is for children/adolescents ages 13-19 who have difficulty with anger control and frustration tolerance.  The group has been designed around the principles of Cognitive Psychology.  In the simplest terms, cognitive theory states that our behavior is based on our beliefs and values.  Through the use of open discussions, activities, and film, adolescent boys and girls are given the opportunity to focus on those beliefs and values and examine how they contribute to their attitude and any difficulties they are currently facing.  This is a high effective program for many people.  Parents are involved as part of the solution by attending two parent meetings that help them reinforce group principles at home.  The goal of the program is for your child to internalize the core teaching that over time lead to better decision making, improved frustration tolerance skills, and improved anger management skills.  The group currently meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00p.m.  Please contact our office at 847-680-2715, x. 221 for more information.
